Powering an Electric, Zero-Emission Quicklime Industry

The challenge

It’s used in everything from steelmaking to water treatment and paper production. Mostly invisible to the public, quicklime is a backbone of the modern world.

But producing it comes at a high climate cost: it relies on fossil fuels, and heating limestone to extreme temperatures releases large amounts of CO2.This has to change—permanently. That’s why we do what we do: electrify the process and capture all emissions in a single, integrated system.

The Zero-Emission Pathway

Making a clean cut with fossil fuels

SaltX is setting a new standard for quicklime production with its patented Electric Arc Calciner (EAC) Technology—a fully electrified, high-temperature solution powered by renewable energy. The EAC replaces fossil-fueled heating and captures CO2 released from the limestone in one process, delivering truly zero-emission quicklime.

Zero-Emission Quicklime Technology

SaltX’s groundbreaking kiln uses 100% renewable electricity to produce clean quicklime—while capturing all process CO2. At the heart of the innovation is our patented Electric Arc Calciner (EAC), designed with a unique cyclone shape that maximizes heat transfer as limestone is exposed to intense plasma-powered energy.

SaltX’s patented innovation, the Electric Arc Calciner (EAC), is the core enabler of a sustainable transition. It delivers clean, high-temperature heat using plasma technology, while simultaneously separating and capturing CO2 released from the limestone. The CO2 is maintained as a pure byproduct—ready for utilization or permanent storage.

Clean quicklime, and clean CO2 captured directly at the source.

ZEQL [sequel] is an industrial partnership between SMA Mineral and SaltX Technology. We enable a zero-emission quicklime industry based on new innovative electrification technology and CO2 separation. Our first factory will be ready in 2027 – setting the standard for climate-neutral quicklime.
